Job Description: Frontend Engineering Intern (Summer 2025)

This 12-week summer internship (May/June 2025 start dates available) within ByteDance’s Global e-commerce Team offers hands-on experience in frontend development for international short-video e-commerce products. The team strives to create a seamless and efficient shopping experience for users while providing reliable platform services for merchants across various e-commerce formats (live commerce, short-video commerce).

Responsibilities:

• Develop efficient and reusable front-end systems for complex e-commerce web applications.
• Optimize code for scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
• Collaborate with product design, product management, and software engineering teams to deliver exceptional user experiences.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing an Undergraduate/Graduate degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 12-week commitment during Summer 2025.
• Work authorization in the country of employment.
• General familiarity and interest in frontend development, including:
• Languages: JavaScript/TypeScript/HTML/CSS
• Frameworks: React/Vue/Angular
• Packaging frameworks: Webpack/Rollup/Babel/AST/Gulp
• Understanding of functional and asynchronous programming, closures, types, layouts, specificity, animation, cross-browser compatibility, data security, and accessibility.
• General understanding of multi-tier application architecture and protocols, and familiarity with the product and software development lifecycle.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Graduation in December 2025 or later, with plans to return to studies after the internship.
• Agile, self-motivated, creative problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of product ownership.
• Passion for software coding/development and building mobile/web applications.
• Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills, comfortable in a fast-paced, diverse, and globally distributed team environment.

Compensation:

The hourly rate range for this position is $45-$45. Benefits include health insurance, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, 10 paid holidays per year, and paid sick time. (Specific benefits may vary based on employment type and location).
