Forensic Expert – Premises Liability Intern

Aperture LLC is actively seeking a Forensic Expert – Intern for all our locations. We operate as a full-service provider of litigation-focused forensic engineering services. Our primary areas of expertise include premises liability and safety engineering, accident reconstruction, and construction-defect analysis.

Job Summary

As a Forensic Expert – Intern, you will gain comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of forensic consulting services and the essential skills required to become a Forensic Expert. This includes learning how to assess and determine the origin and cause of complex and unique problems, ultimately supporting the resolution of claims and legal disputes for our clients. You will have the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a diverse team, collaborating with various engineering disciplines to determine the root cause of a wide range of incidents.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct thorough field investigations at various sites.
  • Execute advanced field measuring techniques, including triangulation, coordinate mapping, and total station use, for locating evidence and accurately documenting scenes.
  • Inspect sites, vehicles, and other relevant evidence meticulously for forensic investigation purposes.
  • Accurately report and meticulously collect evidence, which includes, but is not limited to, forensic photos and videos.
  • Apply established engineering principles in accordance with industry standards to investigation analysis.
  • Utilize appropriate calculations, applications, and figures to ensure the proper procedures are consistently applied.
  • Produce clear, concise, and defensible written technical reports detailing observations and conclusions. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong report writing abilities are essential.
  • Provide expert-level consultation to our clients, assisting them in answering complex technical questions.
  • Maintain and enhance technical and professional knowledge within the engineer’s practice area(s) by attending continuing education courses and workshops, participating in industry/practice-related seminars, reviewing relevant scientific and professional publications, and actively participating in professional organizations and societies.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Architectural, or Structural Engineering; or actively working towards your Bachelor’s degree in one of these fields.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills combined with a results-driven attitude.
  • Aptitude: Mathematically and technologically inclined, with the ability to quickly adapt to new environments or scenarios.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work remotely or while traveling to different job sites as required.

Physical Requirements

This position demands the physical ability to perform all of the following functions:

  • Climb ladders safely and effectively.
  • Walk on roofs, potentially at heights and on varying surfaces.
  • Enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including hot or cold temperatures.
  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Utilize necessary safety equipment properly and consistently.
  • Perform duties that may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or squatting for prolonged periods of time.
  • Employee may be required to travel for business purposes.
