Title: Fleet Engineering Intern (Summer 2025)

Location: Lockheed Martin Mitchel Field, NY (with potential travel to forward sites)

About the Role:

This is a full-time summer internship opportunity for a college sophomore or junior interested in systems engineering. You will contribute to the Navy Fleet Ballistic Missile program by:

Learning about the Trident Submarine Navigation system: You will gain a deep understanding of the system’s components and functions.
Supporting the Fleet: You will provide support to the fleet and forward site field engineers in their daily operations.
Supporting Daily Maintenance Schedules: You will assist with scheduling and reporting on daily maintenance activities.
Supporting Refit Submarine Tasks: You will contribute to the process of refitting submarines.
Providing Advanced Support: You will offer advanced support for inboard and outboard maintenance activities.
Investigating and Troubleshooting Problems: You will assist in identifying and resolving issues within the SSBN SWS Navigation subsystem.

Responsibilities:

This internship will involve a hands-on approach to learning about the Trident Submarine Navigation system and its maintenance. You will work directly with experienced engineers and technicians, gaining valuable experience in a real-world setting.

Qualifications:

Education: College sophomore or junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Hardware Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
Hands-on Experience: Academic or professional experience assembling and testing hardware (e.g., robotics).
Processor Design & Architecture: Academic or professional experience with processor design and architecture.
Microsoft Office Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
US Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen; this position will require a government security clearance.
Facility Access: This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Desired Skills:

Schematics: Experience reading and understanding schematics.
Estimation & Control Theory: Basic knowledge of estimation and control theory, including Kalman filtering and smoothing.
Systems Engineering: Basic knowledge of systems engineering principles, including system and component specifications, understanding of requirement flow-down, allocation, validation, and verification processes.

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Washington or Washington DC is $20,904 – $61,672. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location.
