Job Description

The Fixed Income Sophomore Summer Analyst Program at Morgan Stanley is a 10-week program designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fixed income market and the firm’s business. The program consists of a week of classroom training followed by multiple rotations across various fixed income areas, including:

Global Credit & Municipals
Securitized Products
Foreign Exchange/Emerging Markets
Interest Rates
Commodities

Responsibilities:

During the rotations, Summer Analysts will gain hands-on experience in various roles, including:

Sales: Learning how to build and maintain client relationships, create investment ideas, sell and cross-sell the firm’s products, and represent the firm when interacting with clients on important business issues.
Trading: Assisting with generating trade ideas and analysis, supporting market-making and trade execution, and providing research analytics on trades and relative value analysis.
Strategy: Contributing to the development of investment recommendations on fixed income securities by studying market fundamentals and technical research.
Structuring: Learning to build valuation models to help issuers and investors optimize transactions and quantify sources of value and risk.

Training Program:

The program begins with a one-day orientation where new hires are introduced to the firm’s businesses and its culture. This is followed by division-specific training focusing on core skills essential for success in fixed income sales and trading. The curriculum includes daily market updates, business-specific overviews, and basic product and technical training.

Qualifications:

The program is open to applicants of all races, genders, and other protected characteristics. The following qualifications are required:

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree (sophomore) with a graduation date of December 2026 or Spring 2027
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Strong interest in finance and markets
• Analytical and adaptive skills
• Strong work ethic, leadership qualities, and team player abilities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Compensation:

The expected base pay rate for the role is $36.06 per hour at the commencement of employment. However, base pay is determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
