Job Description: Fitness Center Essentials Coach (Coney Island YMCA)

The Fitness Center Essentials Coach at the Coney Island YMCA is responsible for overseeing fitness areas and providing outstanding service to ensure a positive and safe user experience for all members.

Core Purpose and Goals:
The primary goal of this role is to guide beginner exercisers through the YMCA Fitness Center Essentials program. This program aims to assist members in making healthy lifestyle changes and build self-esteem. The Coach achieves this by providing personalized attention, support, motivation, education, and instruction, which are crucial for member engagement and retention.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Understand and lead clients effectively through the Fitness Center Essentials program.
Provide outstanding service to all members and guests by proactively initiating professional relationships, addressing their needs, concerns, and questions, and accommodating them.
Understand, discuss, and promote all YMCA programs to members.
Contact members weekly to follow up on the progression of their fitness program.
Answer members’ questions, concerns, and complaints in a timely and courteous manner.
Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA.
Assist members in effectively utilizing fitness equipment.
Maintain all required certifications, which are tracked in Club Connect.
Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings.
Possess thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action during emergency situations.
Support community and promotional special events as needed.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent (desirable).
• Minimum age of 18 years old.
Experience working in a health and fitness environment.
• Current adult CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Completion of Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y.
• Knowledge of Principles of Member Health & Wellness, Foundations of Listen First, and Foundations of Strength and Conditioning.
• Ability to attend Fitness Center Essentials Training.
• Ability to attend YMCA service training within ninety (90) days of hire.
Excellent customer service skills.
