About Morgan Stanley Firm Risk Management
Morgan Stanley’s Firm Risk Management Division is dedicated to identifying, measuring, monitoring, and controlling risks across the organization. This includes risks like regulatory risk and the potential for financial loss to the Firm and its clients. The division works to ensure the effectiveness and consistency of risk management processes, ultimately mitigating potential harm.
Their risk departments, known as “Risk Stripes,” focus on different aspects of their risk framework. These stripes cater to individual skills and interests, providing a tailored program for each Summer Analyst.
2025 Firm Risk Management Summer Analyst Program: Detailed Description
This 10-week program, beginning in June, offers a comprehensive and hands-on experience in Financial Services and Risk Management. Here’s a closer look at what the program entails:
Comprehensive Learning:
• Introduction to Financial Services and Risk Management: Gain a foundational understanding of the industry and its intricate risk landscape.
• In-Depth Exposure to a Specific Risk Stripe: Summer Analysts are placed within a specific Risk Stripe, allowing for deep exploration of a particular area of risk management. These stripes include:
• Credit Risk Management (CRM)
• Liquidity Risk Department (LRD)
• Market Risk Department (MRD)
• Risk COO
• Wealth Management Risk
• Investment Management, Risk Data & Strategy
• Capital & Stress Testing
• Meaningful Projects: Engage in challenging projects to assess risks and effectively communicate your findings.
• Formal and Informal Training: Participate in structured training sessions covering product knowledge, industry best practices, soft skills, and teambuilding. Also, benefit from on-the-job learning and weekly educational forums with senior management.
• Mentorship and Support: Enjoy the guidance of a peer buddy and a senior leader mentor.

Risk Stripe Overview:
• Credit Risk Management (CRM): CRM safeguards the firm from losses due to borrowers’ inability to meet their financial obligations. They assess creditworthiness, assign ratings, and constantly monitor credit risk exposure.
• Liquidity Risk Department (LRD): LRD ensures the firm has sufficient liquidity to meet its obligations, even in unexpected situations. They monitor potential changes in funding needs and manage the size and quality of the firm’s liquid assets.
• Market Risk Department (MRD): MRD manages market risk associated with the firm’s trading and non-trading activities. They identify, define, and limit market risks, providing comprehensive reports.
• Risk COO: This group partners across risk areas to deliver strategic and regulatory-driven initiatives.
• Wealth Management, U.S. Banks (WM Risk): WM Risk supports Wealth Management and U.S. Banks by setting up and overseeing frameworks, handling regulatory risks, and implementing strategic initiatives.
• Investment Management, Risk Data & Strategy and Capital & Stress Testing: This group tackles a wide range of responsibilities, including risk assessment across the firm’s investment offerings, stress testing, capital planning, data standards, and governance.
Qualifications for the Summer Analyst Program:
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree between December 2025 and May 2026 (all majors welcome)
• Strong interest in risk management, financial products, markets, and regulation
• Demonstrated teamwork skills and a positive work ethic
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), advanced skills a plus

Compensation:
• Expected base pay rate is $37.26 hourly at the start of employment. Individualized base pay and a comprehensive compensation package will be determined upon hiring.
