Description: Fire Protection Engineering Internship
Location: Various South Region locations in the United States
Responsibilities:
• Develop, modify, and review drawings of systems or components according to established standards.
• Create plans, specifications, and inspection reports for assigned tasks, ensuring accuracy and adherence to professional standards.
• Assist in resolving design problems through field investigations, detailed design work, checking computations, and coordinating design aspects into projects.
• Identify applicable codes and standards for evaluating inquiries.
• Conduct and document assigned work, including:
• Basic building code analyses
• Egress analyses
• Fire detection and alarm systems reviews
• Smoke control systems reviews
• Basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations
• Perform basic calculations such as:
• Size required means of egress
• Maximum allowable building area
• Sprinkler system water supplies
• Smoke control equipment
• Communicate effectively with project team members, clients, and others.
Requirements and Currently pursuings:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles or construction technology and practices.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Intermediate-level written and oral communication skills for writing reports, business correspondence, presentations, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to solve practical problems, deal with variables in situations with limited standardization, and interpret instructions in various formats.
• Responsible self-starter with problem-solving and reasoning skills.
• Intermediate-level personal computer skills, including email, database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
