Position Summary

The Financial Systems Intern will support the Financial Systems team in maintaining, analyzing, and enhancing enterprise finance applications and related reporting processes. This role will assist with system testing, data validation, reporting support, and documentation for core finance platforms, working under established procedures with increasing autonomy as proficiency is demonstrated. The intern will gain exposure to how financial data flows across systems and how technology enables accounting, reporting, and compliance processes.

A successful internship outcome includes the intern independently completing assigned system support tasks, contributing to at least one process improvement or documentation deliverable, and demonstrating a strong understanding of financial systems operations within a corporate environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day support of financial systems (e.g., GL, reporting, planning, or reconciliation tools) by following established processes and escalation procedures
  • Support system testing activities related to enhancements, patches, or configuration changes, including executing test scripts, validating results, and documenting findings
  • Perform data validation and reconciliations between source systems and downstream reports to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including process flows, user guides, and control narratives, with attention to detail and audit readiness
  • Assist with recurring and ad-hoc financial reporting by extracting, organizing, and analyzing data using Excel and other approved tools
  • Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, and IT stakeholders to understand system dependencies and support cross-functional initiatives as directed

This role operates primarily within defined procedures. Duties may be modified at the discretion of the supervisor.

Working Relationships

  • Financial Systems Team: Daily interaction; requires clear communication, attention to detail, and willingness to ask clarifying questions
  • Accounting & FP&A Teams: Weekly interaction; supports reporting, reconciliations, and system-related inquiries
  • Information Technology: Periodic interaction; coordination during testing cycles and system changes
  • External Vendors (as applicable): Limited exposure; professional communication under supervision

Requirements

Minimum Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management Information Systems, or a related field
  • Rising Sophomore or Junior with strong academic performance (preferred GPA 3.5 or higher)
  • Relevant coursework in Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance, Information Systems, or Data Analytics

Preferred Education:

  • Dual concentration or coursework in Finance and Management Information Systems
  • Exposure to financial modeling, systems analysis, or database concepts through coursework or programs

Minimum Experience:

  • Demonstrated analytical experience through coursework, case competitions, or structured academic programs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure to financial systems, data analysis, or finance-related technology through internships, case competitions, or academic programs
  • Experience using data models or structured datasets
  • Introductory experience with SQL or similar languages

Hours & Conditions: Monday – Friday 8 hour day in office setting

Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver and regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Consistent with Massachusetts Pay Transparency Law, we’re sharing the base salary range for this position. Final pay within this range will be based on your skills, experience, and qualifications.

Base pay represents just one part of our total rewards approach. We’re proud to offer a variety of financial and non-financial benefits that invest in your overall growth, well-being, and career journey.

Pay Range: $20.00 – $22.50 per hour (based on academic year and experience).

  • Sophomore: $20.00/hour
  • Junior: $21.25/hour
  • Senior: $22.50/hour
