Job Description
This is a front-office, client-centric role within a leading Corporate Finance franchise at Deutsche Bank. The successful candidate will gain experience in both advisory and capital markets work (debt and equity), working on complex projects for leading local, pan-African, and global clients.
Key Responsibilities:
• Client-focused: Work on a variety of complex projects for leading South African and African corporates and global clients with a presence in South Africa and Africa.
• Strategic thinking: Contribute to the development of new ideas to help clients achieve their strategic and financial objectives.
• Analytical skills: Use analytical skills and the ability to solve problems in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Project management: Manage projects and be involved in the execution of live transactions and pitches.
• Communication and collaboration: Attend team discussions and client meetings, delivering parts of presentations.
• Tasks: Responsibilities will vary, but may include:
• Evaluating companies
• Financial analysis
• Developing models for M&A and capital markets transactions
• Preparing industry analyses for pitches
• Conducting research
• Project management and administration
• Providing support in the execution of live deals
• Learning and growth: Learn from experienced colleagues both locally and offshore, evolve professionally and personally, and build a firm foundation upon which to specialize later.
• Teamwork: Interact with various sector and product teams across the bank, both onshore and offshore.
• Support: Support senior bankers in origination and coverage efforts.
• Analysis and documentation: Provide accurate calculations and analysis, draft documentation, discussion materials, and pitchbooks.
• Compliance: Fulfilling and keeping up to date with various compliance and FAIS license requirements.
• Administrative support: Support the team with administrative tasks.
• Franchise building: Contribute positively to franchise building activities.
• Networking and Development: Engage in regional networking and Talent Development offerings.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Minimum 2 years prior experience in corporate finance.
• Demonstrated track record of seeking out M&A, advisory, or capital markets experience (through university societies, vacation projects, internships, or the like) is viewed positively.
• Strong technical skills, including financial modelling, financial analysis, and understanding of valuation methodologies.
• Conscientious and dedicated individual with excellent analytical skills.
• Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal), fluent in English.
• Strong proficiency with financial analytics software and Microsoft suite of products.
• Commercial instinct, demonstrable passion for finance and capital markets with an affinity for numbers.
• Results-driven, performs well under pressure and against tight deadlines.
• Bright mind with an excellent academic record.
• Team player with the ability to manage a wide range of responsibilities and contribute to the success of the franchise.
• Committed to excellence and maintains high professional and ethical standards.
• Post-graduate degree is a prerequisite (minimum Honours level).
• Academic focus on business or the natural sciences, particularly finance, accounting, investment management, business administration, economics, mathematics, or engineering.
