Financial Operations Intern | Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI)
The Tone:
This is an internship at Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI), located in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. BPMI is a prime contractor for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, involved in the design, purchase, quality control, and delivery of major propulsion plant components for nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, submarines, and prototype plants for the U.S. Navy. This role is critical in supporting the company’s financial operations, including accounting, forecasting, and budgeting, which are essential for managing government projects and ensuring national security. This opportunity offers valuable experience, enhancing academic training while teaching critical business skills within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

• Mission: To perform routine business functions and analysis, supporting company operations in financial management and reporting for Government projects.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Operations: Process transactions, record cost allocations and distributions, reconcile data, analyze variances, and prepare accounting statements and financial reporting products.
• Reporting: Prepare, analyze, review, and maintain actual results, budgets, forecasts, prime contract forecasts, financial plans, and summary reports and statements.
• Data Management: Assist in the preparation of internal or external reports and databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
• Budget Support: Assist with the development of manpower budget plans, including the creation of accounting charge codes for time charges.
• Contract Funding: Evaluate technical work scopes from engineers to make funding determinations, administer the financial function of contracts using government funds, and verify accuracy of entries for management review.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, or an equivalent field, or an MBA from an accredited college or university.
• Experience: Completed a minimum of four full semesters (60 credits) prior to the internship. Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
• Skills: Strong oral and written communication, strong interpersonal skills, keen attention to detail, and a motivation to learn.
• Bonus: A minimum GPA of 3.0.
