The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at UnitedHealth Group, located in Eden Prairie, MN, requiring four days in-office weekly. Optum, a part of UnitedHealth Group, is a global organization dedicated to improving health outcomes through technology and connecting people with essential care and resources. As a Financial Consultant, you will play a critical role in supporting financial analysis, reporting, and decision-making for Optum Health. Your work will directly contribute to managing performance, optimizing margin, and reducing loss exposure across various payer and provider stakeholders.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop comprehensive financial reporting and analysis for Optum Health performance, covering revenue, medical cost, and margin.
• Collaborate with finance, accounting, and operational stakeholders to validate assumptions and inform national decision-making.
• Assist with value-based care benefit planning and multi-year forecasting, aligning with external margin commitments.
• Analyze value-based care pricing, contracts, and performance to identify potential financial impacts and track remediation initiatives.
• Develop and enhance standardized financial reporting, KPI dashboards, and executive-ready packages for senior leadership.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, with 2+ years of financial and/or accounting experience.
• Experience: At least 2 years of experience in financial planning, forecasting, reporting, or business analysis, including developing and explaining financial reports and budgets. Proven ability to work cross-functionally to support financial and operational initiatives. Demonstrated experience analyzing business and financial metrics to identify trends and communicate recommendations to management.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for data organization, analysis, and leadership presentations. Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate complex financial information into clear business insights. Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs.
• Bonus: Experience in healthcare finance, value-based care, payer-provider contracting, or Medicare Advantage. Familiarity with Hyperion Essbase or other financial reporting and data analysis tools. Progress toward an MBA or CPA certification, or experience with modern tools like AI, Power BI, or automation solutions.
