• Mission: To support department managers and project leaders by creating budgets, preparing accurate financial reports, and analyzing data to inform future activities and ensure appropriate financial oversight.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft (Excel, PowerPoint), SAP, GAAP/IFRS, Cost accounting.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare month-end close activities, including a detailed analysis of financial information to create journal entries that accurately impact the financial condition of American Honda Motor (AHM) and Honda Development & Manufacturing of America (HDMA), all under supervision.
• Budget vs. Actual Comparisons: Conduct comprehensive budget versus actual comparisons for responsible departments, analyzing variances based on professional accounting standards to ensure accurate financial data and provide insightful advice to management regarding future activities.
• Budget Creation: Apply strong analytical skills and professional accounting knowledge to collaborate effectively with department managers and investment project leaders in the development of six distinct budget events each year.
• Management Presentations: Utilize analyzed financial information to create clear and concise presentations that inform department leaders about their budget-to-actual condition and proactively recommend specific areas for financial improvement and optimization.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or finance; OR an associate’s degree with a minimum of 2 years experience in an accounting-related job. This is an entry-level role requiring a general understanding of accounting functions, terminology, and the ability to apply accounting concepts, including basic accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and a cost accounting background.
• Experience: 0-2 years with a bachelor’s degree; minimum 2 years with an associate’s degree in an accounting-related job.
• Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, presentation, and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft products (Excel, PowerPoint) and SAP knowledge and skills are required.
