Job Description

Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a motivated and people-oriented Finance Intern to join their team in Houghton, MI. This internship offers practical experience in various finance areas and is designed to be both educational and hands-on.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Accounting:
• Review contracts and enter data into relevant databases.
• Audit charitable contributions and receipts.
• Validate payroll accruals.
• Analyze activity on closed cost centers.
• Manage maintenance requests from field operations.
• Conduct paperwork audits.
• Assist with monthly close processes.
Operations:
• Support local new unit openings under the guidance of the Field Accounting team.
New Business Finance:
• Assist with budget review and analysis.
• Participate in flash review and analysis.
Payroll:
• Gain knowledge of payroll processes through filing and document retention practices.
• Process payroll work orders.

Learning Objectives:

• Develop an understanding of diverse work environments.
• Gain practical experience in finance and accounting through observation and practice.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in accounting or finance.
• Must be an undergraduate student.
• General interest and knowledge in finance.
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and listening skills.
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills.

Schedule:

The schedule will be determined based on the intern’s class schedule and business needs. The position requires weekend work as needed.

Compensation:

The internship offers an hourly rate of $13.00.
