Job Description
Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a motivated and people-oriented Finance Intern to join their team in Baton Rouge, LA. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in various finance-related areas, including Field Accounting, Operations, Budget Management, and Payroll. The internship is designed to be both educational and practical, allowing you to apply your learned skills in a professional setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Accounting:
• Review contracts for entry into the database
• Review charitable contributions and audit receipts
• Conduct payroll accrual validations
• Review activity on closed cost centers
• Maintain maintenance requests from field operations
• Conduct paperwork audits
• Assist with monthly close
Operations:
• Assist with local new unit openings under the guidance of FA New Business
Finance:
• Support budget review and analysis
• Assist with flash review and analysis
Payroll:
• Gain knowledge of paperwork and team activities through filing
• Gain knowledge of document retention through scanning
• Process payroll work orders
Learning Objectives:
• Develop awareness, understanding, and skills needed to work in a diverse environment.
• Gain hands-on experience in the world of Finance and Accounting through learning, observation, and practice.
Qualifications:
• Must be pursuing a degree in accounting or finance.
• Must be an undergraduate student.
• General interest and knowledge in finance.
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strive for excellence and high performance.
• Strong desire for continuous learning and process improvements in working with people and technology.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, listening, and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
