The Tone:
This 11-week internship at John Hancock operates under a hybrid working arrangement, with U.S. operations primarily based in Boston, MA. This internship provides students with hands-on experience in accounting, financial reporting, tax, controls, and audit within a global financial services organization. Interns contribute to work that supports key business decisions and regulatory requirements, developing technical skills and expanding their professional network while preparing for future CPA and finance careers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reporting: Contribute to quarterly and annual reporting processes, including GAAP, Statutory, and IFRS deliverables.
• Analysis: Support management reporting, financial analysis, and the preparation of external disclosures such as press releases and Management’s Discussion & Analysis.
• Tax: Assist with tax provision and returns across the John Hancock complex.
• Controls: Partner with the Controls Center of Excellence to enhance risk assessments, key controls, and governance processes.
• Audit: Participate in internal audit activities to assess the design and effectiveness of governance, risk, and controls.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a commitment to CPA certification post-graduation preferred.
• Experience: This is an entry-level internship for students seeking professional exposure.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), excellent written and oral communication, strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Bonus: Prior internship, co-op, or work experience in finance, accounting, or a related field; knowledge of financial reporting standards (GAAP, IFRS, Statutory); familiarity with audit or risk management practices; demonstrated initiative and leadership through campus involvement or prior roles; collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships across teams.
