Fall 2026 Partial Hospitalization Internship | Arbour Counseling Services

The Tone:
This is an internship at Arbour Counseling Services, located in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Arbour Counseling Services, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, provides trusted quality behavioral health and substance use treatment programs to individuals, groups, families, and couples. This internship aims to provide high-quality training and supervision to students on the role and responsibilities of a counselor/therapist within a multi-leveled, multi-faceted, and multidisciplinary Behavioral Healthcare System. The program is designed to equip interns with clinical experience and documentation skills, enabling them to provide meaningful and quality care in future roles.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Group Therapy: Lead psychotherapy, expressive therapy, and psychoeducation groups on topics like stress-management, anger management, DBT, relationship issues, and self-esteem.
• Clinical Assessment: Conduct clinical assessments and diagnose a variety of mental health and substance use disorders for individualized treatment planning.
• Case Management: Manage client cases, including aftercare planning, referrals, and coordination with external systems.
• Crisis Management: Assess and manage crisis situations, perform risk assessments, and develop safety plans.
• Team Collaboration: Work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical treatment team and collaborate with other professionals in various capacities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently a 2nd Year Master Student or equivalent, seeking a 2nd Internship in a relevant clinical field.
• Experience: Ability to commit 24 hours per week, three days a week (8:30am-5pm), for a full year program, attending required staff meetings, orientation sessions, and agency-wide intern workshops.
• Skills: Proficiency in conducting clinical assessments, diagnosing disorders, developing treatment plans, leading group therapy, implementing individual therapy interventions, and navigating insurance authorizations and medical necessity justifications.
