Internship Cognates (Tracks)

Upon acceptance into the program, you will have the opportunity to choose one of six specialized cognates to focus your internship experience:

  • Sound Engineer

As a Sound Engineer intern, you will gain direct, hands-on experience running all sound for live shows. This cognate offers invaluable learning opportunities directly from our preferred partners at Goedde Sound and Light, providing first-hand insight into the intricacies of live show production.

  • Lighting Engineering or Lighting Design

Interns in this track will receive comprehensive training on two separate lighting rigs, both utilizing the advanced Grand MA2 software. You will master the software, learn tempo control, and develop lighting progressions. The initial approximately 4 weeks will be spent honing your skills on the lighting rig in The Jungle, after which you will expand your expertise to the main lighting rig in The Atrium for the remainder of the internship.

  • Photography

This cognate focuses on developing your skills in concert and event photography, specifically in challenging lighting conditions and with fast-paced crowd movement. Your primary goal will be to fully capture the “experience” of the venue and the moment at every show you shoot. You will be provided with specific criteria for your shots each night, and approved content will be prominently featured on all Kilroy’s social channels and digital platforms.

  • Videography

Videography interns will undertake varied tasks for each concert or event, including shooting backstage, within the crowd, on the rail, and from the lighting booth. Your objective is to thoroughly capture the “Experience” of the crowd. Following each event, you will be tasked with creating a short 30-second clip that encapsulates the night’s energy and atmosphere. Approved content will be showcased across all Kilroy’s social channels and digital platforms.

  • Marketing Operations

In this cognate, you will be exposed to a broad spectrum of marketing disciplines, including social media marketing, print marketing, and experiential marketing. You will learn the principles of how to plan, execute, and effectively measure the success of strategies associated with these diverse marketing approaches.

  • Digital Marketing

The Digital Marketing cognate offers exposure to a comprehensive range of digital platforms. This includes, but is not limited to, various social media channels, Eventbrite, Shopify, Website management, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and other digital music platforms, providing a holistic understanding of online marketing in the music industry.
