Job Description
Job Title: Faculty Intern in Biology (Anatomy and Physiology)
Program: College of the Siskiyous Faculty Diversity Internship Program
Location: Remote
Program Overview:
The College of the Siskiyous (Siskiyous) is seeking a Faculty Intern in Biology (Anatomy and Physiology) for a year-long, remote internship. This program is specifically designed to equip aspiring community college faculty members with the essential skills and knowledge required for excellence in online teaching. As part of the College of the Siskiyous Faculty Diversity Internship Program, it also aims to increase the diversity of the Siskiyous faculty and ultimately enrich and improve students’ experiences.
Key Dates and Timeline:
- First Application Review: February 15, 2026
- Internship Begins: June 1, 2026
- Internship Duration: Year-long, covering the 2026-2027 academic year.
Compensation:
- Fall Semester (end of): A stipend of $1000 will be paid.
- Spring Semester: Interns will be paid $38.53 per hour for up to 7 hours of work per week.
Internship Activities and Responsibilities (2026-2027 Academic Year):
Our Biology Faculty Intern will engage in a comprehensive program designed to develop online teaching expertise:
- Mentorship: Regular meetings (approximately every 2 weeks) with a dedicated Faculty Mentor from the Siskiyous biology department throughout the 26-27 academic year.
- Online Teaching Training (Summer & Fall 2026): Complete approximately 80 hours of intensive online teaching training.
- Hands-on Online Teaching Experience (Spring 2027): Gain practical experience by assisting with their mentor’s online class. This may involve:
- Developing assignments or online learning units.
- Participating in class discussions.
- Organizing and attending student study groups or tutoring sessions.
- Grading student work.
- Professional Development: Attend 1-2 workshops focused on relevant educational topics.
- Portfolio Development: Complete and present an online teaching portfolio showcasing acquired skills and experiences.
- Remote Fulfillment: All program requirements are designed to be fulfilled remotely.
Candidate Requirements:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Possess an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Clearly describe how their participation will increase the diversity of the Siskiyous faculty and enrich Allied Health students’ experiences.
- Meet one of the following educational qualifications:
- Have recently obtained OR be an enrolled graduate student who has completed at least 50% of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in any biological science.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a biological science AND have completed at least 50% of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science.
