FACULTY DIVERSITY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM – PSYCHOLOGY

Institution: College of the Siskiyous

Program Overview:
The College of the Siskiyous is seeking a Faculty Intern in Psychology for a year-long, remote internship. This program is specifically designed to provide aspiring community college faculty members with the essential skills and knowledge required to excel in online teaching. As part of the College of the Siskiyous Faculty Diversity Internship Program, it also aims to enhance the diversity of the Siskiyous faculty and enrich the overall educational experiences for our students.

Compensation:

  • Stipend: $1000 paid at the end of the Fall semester.
  • Hourly Pay: $38.53 per hour for up to 7 hours of work per week during the Spring semester.

Internship Structure & Responsibilities (2026-2027 Academic Year):

  • Mentorship: Regular meetings (approximately every 2 weeks) with a Faculty Mentor from the Siskiyous social science department.
  • Summer and Fall 2026: Complete approximately 80 hours of comprehensive online teaching training.
  • Spring 2027: Gain hands-on experience by assisting with the mentor’s online class. This practical involvement may include:
    • Developing assignments or online learning units.
    • Participating in class discussions.
    • Organizing and attending student study groups or tutoring sessions.
    • Grading.
  • Professional Development: Attend 1-2 workshops.
  • Portfolio: Complete and present an online teaching portfolio.
  • Remote: All program requirements can be fulfilled remotely.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Possess an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Be able to clearly describe how their participation will increase the diversity of the Siskiyous faculty and enrich students’ experiences.
  • Meet one of the following educational qualifications:
    • Have recently obtained or be an enrolled graduate student who has completed at least 50% of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Psychology; OR
    • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology AND be an enrolled graduate student who has completed at least 50% of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work.
