Windrose Animal Hospital is a bustling practice located in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, just north of Pittsburgh. It offers a comprehensive range of general and urgent care veterinary services. The hospital is led by Dr. RJ Skalos, recognized as one of the top-rated veterinarians in the Pittsburgh area.
The hospital facilities are cutting-edge, having undergone significant expansion and renovation in 2021, with another expansion currently under development and planned for completion in 2024. It features 10 exam rooms, capable of offering services including exotics. The surgical suite is well-equipped with electrocautery and Voyant surgical systems (similar to ligasure). For diagnostics, the hospital utilizes Ultrasound, DR conventional & dental radiography, Endoscopy, and will soon be adding CT capabilities. It also uses an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and has the flexibility to integrate specialty services in the near future.

Job Description
This is an exciting Externship Opportunity for students looking to gain valuable experience in a progressive veterinary practice. The position is classified as an Internship (specifically an Externship).
As an extern at Windrose Animal Hospital, students will gain comprehensive, real-life, “in the trenches” experience in veterinary medicine. The program aims to teach top-notch medicine, provide valuable hands-on clinical experience, and help externs enrich the lives of patients and clients. Under the guidance of Dr. RJ Skalos, externs will be involved in core veterinary tasks including:
• Gathering patient information and history.
• Performing physical exams.
• Creating treatment plans.
• Assisting with and learning about diagnostics.
• Observing and participating in surgical and dentistry services.
The externship program is customizable, ranging from 2 to 4 weeks depending on the student’s schedule. To support externs, the opportunity includes an externship stipend (for clinic year students), paid housing, and a lifetime subscription to Pocket Prep.
