Experiential Therapist Intern

Summary

The Experiential Therapist Intern plays a crucial role in the development, planning, implementation, facilitation, direction, and evaluation of experiential therapy programming across all specialized treatment areas. This intern will possess a working knowledge of the psychosocial functioning of patient/resident groups, along with the practical application of expressive activities within a psychiatric setting. These activities include, but are not limited to: adventure-based and environmental activities, sports, dance, group initiatives, arts/crafts, music, outdoor activities, various art media, psychodrama, horticulture, and ropes/challenge course programs.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

In alignment with the program description and in collaboration with the intern’s university, this internship may encompass duties related to cognitive behavioral therapies in addition to social services. Specific details of the experience will be tailored by Rogers in partnership with the intern’s university and may include the following:

  • Evaluate, plan, and coordinate comprehensive experiential programming.
  • Complete all necessary documentation or treatment records in adherence to Rogers policy.
  • Establish a strong therapeutic rapport with patient/resident groups, while consistently maintaining appropriate, professional relationships.

Education/Training Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a BS/BA degree program, with a preference for disciplines such as art, music, dance, recreation, or other therapy-related fields. This is required.
  • Successful completion of all Rogers onboarding training coursework is required prior to the start date.
  • Formal training in the management of the aggressive patient (NCI) is required within sixty (60) days of the date of placement. Annual re-certification is required and will be provided.
  • Successful completion of pre-placement background checks through the Rogers system are required.
  • Successful occupational health clearance from your provider is required.
