Job Title: Experiential Therapist Intern

Summary

As an Experiential Therapist Intern, you will play a pivotal role in developing, planning, implementing, facilitating, directing, and evaluating dynamic experiential therapy programming across all specialized treatment areas within our psychiatric setting. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply your working knowledge of the psychosocial functioning of diverse patient and resident groups, utilizing a broad spectrum of expressive activities.

Your responsibilities will encompass a wide array of therapeutic modalities, including but not limited to:

  • Adventure-based and environmental activities
  • Sports and recreational therapies
  • Dance and movement therapies
  • Group initiatives and team-building exercises
  • Arts and crafts
  • Music therapy
  • Outdoor activities
  • Various art media expressions
  • Psychodrama
  • Horticulture therapy
  • Ropes and challenge course facilitation

Job Duties & Responsibilities

In close partnership with your university and guided by Rogers’ program descriptions, this internship is designed to provide a comprehensive and enriching experience. Depending on the collaborative agreement, your duties may extend beyond experiential therapies to include aspects of cognitive behavioral therapies and social services, providing a holistic learning opportunity. Specific details of your experience will be tailored through collaboration between Rogers and your academic institution. Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate, Plan, and Coordinate Experiential Programming: Actively assess patient/resident needs, design therapeutic activities, and coordinate all logistical aspects to ensure effective and engaging programming.
  • Complete Documentation and Treatment Adherence: Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of patient progress, treatment plans, and sessions, ensuring strict adherence to Rogers’ policies and professional standards.
  • Establish Therapeutic Rapport: Cultivate strong, empathetic, and professional therapeutic relationships with patient/resident groups, fostering trust and a safe environment for expression and growth while upholding appropriate boundaries.

Education/Training Requirements

To be considered for this invaluable internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate from, a Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program. Preferred fields include art, music, dance, recreation, or other related therapeutic disciplines.
  • Onboarding Training: Successful completion of all mandatory Rogers onboarding training coursework is required prior to your official start date.
  • Aggressive Patient Management (NCI): Formal training in the management of aggressive patients (NCI) is required within sixty (60) days of your placement date. Annual re-certification will be provided by Rogers.
  • Background Checks: Successful completion of pre-placement background checks through the Rogers system is mandatory.
  • Occupational Health Clearance: Successful occupational health clearance from your healthcare provider is required.
