About the Role

As a Valuation Actuarial Intern, you will be an integral part of a collaborative and agile team. Your contributions will involve designing, analyzing, and implementing innovative solutions aimed at driving efficiency and exceeding expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct data manipulation, organization, and analysis to support actuarial functions.
  • Assist with updating and improving existing reports, spreadsheets, and documentation.
  • Develop and utilize specialized tools in support of reserve calculations.
  • Take on various special projects as assigned by the team or management.

Reporting & Location:

  • This role reports directly to the Actuary.
  • The position offers flexibility to be based out of our office in Topeka or Overland Park, Kansas.
  • We operate on a hybrid schedule, providing the option to work both remotely and on-site.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

Eligibility & Availability:

  • Must be a current, full-time college student.
  • Available to work 10 – 20 hours a week, beginning immediately.
  • Expected to work during and in between semesters, including full-time over the summer.
  • This is NOT a summer-only internship.

Academic & Actuarial Background:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance, or Computer Science at the sophomore to graduate level.
  • Strong GPA in major and across all areas of study.
  • Commitment to pursue an actuarial credential demonstrated by preparation for Society of Actuaries-administered exams or exam credit is preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced Excel knowledge/skill is REQUIRED, including proficiency with functions and macro creation, editing, and use.
  • Demonstrated ability with Visual Basic coding, Access, SQL, and/or C++ is preferred.

  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines are required.
  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail are crucial for this role.
