Job Summary: Estimating Intern

The Estimating Intern will provide crucial support to the dynamic Cost Estimation team, playing a pivotal role in the development of proposal builds, comprehensive cost estimation, and strategic small business plan support. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience by creating foundational cost templates, systematically organizing critical documentation, and actively collaborating on pivotal projects. This internship promises invaluable practical experience, laying a strong foundation in financial analysis and strategic business planning within a leading defense industry context.

Essential Functions:

  • Proposal Builds: Play a vital role in the meticulous development and assembly of comprehensive proposal builds, ensuring unparalleled accuracy and completeness of all embedded cost data.
  • Proposal Audit Support: Actively support the Cost Estimation team during critical proposal audits, systematically gathering, organizing, and verifying Basis of Estimate (BOE) documents sourced from Plex to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
  • Small Business Plan Support: Provide invaluable administrative and organizational assistance in the preparation, documentation, and ongoing maintenance of strategic small business plans, contributing to their successful execution.
  • Certified Cost and Pricing Template Creation: Collaborate intimately with the Cost Estimation team to conceptualize, design, and implement a robust and comprehensive Certified Cost and Pricing Template leveraging basic to intermediate Excel proficiencies and meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and usability.
  • Template Development for Minimum Order Quantities: Work closely with the Cost Estimation team to architect and develop sophisticated templates specifically designed to accurately calculate minimum order quantities (MOQ), thereby optimizing procurement strategies.
  • Packaging Cost Template: Contribute significantly to the creation of an essential template dedicated to calculating packaging costs, integrating this into standard quote (cost) sheets to enhance pricing accuracy and efficiency.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role does not involve any direct supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to managing, organizing, and analyzing extensive datasets with paramount accuracy.
  • Excel Skills: Solid foundational proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with formulas, functions, and data organization, crucial for template creation and data manipulation.
  • Communication: Clear, concise, and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, essential for effective interaction with team members and stakeholders to accurately gather and convey critical information.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment, actively contributing to shared goals and providing proactive assistance on ongoing projects.
  • Problem-Solving: Emerging problem-solving capabilities, with the aptitude to identify potential issues within cost estimation and proposal builds, and to propose practical, effective solutions.

Education & Experience:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in a finance, business, engineering, or related analytical field.
  • Possesses one to two years of related professional experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates foundational understanding.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is a fundamental prerequisite.

Background Prerequisites:

Candidates must undergo and successfully complete rigorous pre-employment checks, including a background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical examination, and controlled substance testing, meeting all company standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex information clearly and persuasively.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This position operates predominantly within an office workspace environment. The role requires the physical and mental capacity to effectively perform all essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
