Equity Research Intern – Biotechnology | Piper Sandler

The Tone:
This is an internship at Piper Sandler, located in New York, NY, intended to transition into a full-time role. Piper Sandler is a leading investment bank that connects capital with opportunities and enables growth and success for its clients through deep sector expertise and candid advice. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Not a summer internship; intended to become a full-time role after an anticipated 6-month period.
• Location: In-person, New York, NY
• Pay: $21–$30 hourly
• Team: Biotechnology Research Group, working in partnership with a senior analyst.
• Mission: To conduct extensive company and industry research, create financial analyses, and develop investment recommendations within the biotechnology sector.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Work in partnership with the senior analyst to conduct extensive company and industry research.
• Analysis: Create comprehensive financial models and valuation analyses for covered companies.
• Reporting: Write detailed company reports, industry reports, and investment recommendations.
• Engagement: Meet with company management teams and interview company customers, suppliers, and competitors.
• Fieldwork: Make company visits and attend trade shows and industry conferences to gather insights.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Ph.D., Master’s degree in science-related fields or an Undergraduate degree in a science-related field with at least 2 years of work experience in the healthcare sector.
• Experience: Strong writing and financial modeling experience required; SIE, Series 86, and 87 required (or willingness to obtain within 90 days).
• Skills: Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills, outstanding quantitative and organizational skills, ability to think quickly on one’s feet and work independently, intense interest in the stock market, strong competitive spirit balanced by a proven ability to work as part of a team, and a strong background in the biological sciences.
• Bonus: Fluent understanding of financial accounting preferred but not required.
