The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Principal Financial Group, with a strong preference for Des Moines, IA, though remote or other office locations are considered with an initial period in Des Moines. This role is central to the Aligned Investors team, which manages over $53bn in U.S. equity strategies. The Equity Analyst’s deep, proprietary fundamental research directly informs investment decisions for high-quality businesses with durable competitive advantages.

• Team: Aligned Investors, a long-term, fundamental investment team managing $53bn in U.S. equity strategies across two U.S. equity strategies.
• Mission: Conduct deep, proprietary fundamental research on U.S. equities and industries to identify new investment opportunities and monitor portfolio holdings.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Conduct deep fundamental research on U.S. equities and industries.
• Evaluation: Evaluate competitive dynamics, industry structure, and trends impacting existing and potential investments.
• Monitoring: Monitor portfolio holdings and identify new investment opportunities.
• Communication: Develop and communicate differentiated perspectives and recommendations to the Portfolio Managers.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Public or private equity investment experience with demonstrated experience conducting deep fundamental research on individual companies.
• Experience: 4+ years of public or private equity investment experience.
• Skills: Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and valuation using Excel, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to independently drive the research process.
• Bonus: MBA or CFA designation, technology sector experience, experience interacting with management teams and industry experts, fluency with applying Artificial Intelligence tools in the equity research process, and willingness to travel for company visits, conferences, and research.
