Role Description:

The Environmental Intern will be an integral part of the Environmental Management team, providing crucial support in achieving key departmental objectives. This role offers exposure to various facets of environmental management, compliance, and sustainability initiatives within a leading automotive manufacturing company.

Key Responsibilities and Contributions:

  • Environmental Management System (EMS) Support:
    • Assist with documentation updates and continual improvement efforts.
    • Participate in environmental audits and inspections, maintaining detailed documentation.
    • Input audit information into the BMW Group Audit Management system.
  • Environmental Compliance Reporting:
    • Assist with data collection, analysis, and calculations for various environmental compliance reports.
    • Administer data within the Environmental Compliance Reporting software.
    • Analyze data and complete calculations for compliance reports.
  • Sustainability Projects:
    • Support specific projects related to the BMW Group Sustainability Strategy through research, development, coordination, and communication.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of biodiversity projects.
    • Develop and maintain digital dashboards for environmental metrics and data.
  • Environmental Training and Outreach:
    • Coordinate and assist in the development of environmental training courses.
    • Continually improve the content of environmental training courses.
    • Develop and publish environmental news articles/newsletters for the Environmental Intranet site.
    • Maintain the Environmental intranet site and manage communication.
  • Regulatory and Plan Management:
    • Review and update environmental plans and regulatory documents.
    • Support specific projects related to environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Plant Tours:
    • Conduct plant tours of department areas for the BMW Gen>NEXT program.

Qualifications:

  • Academic Background: Currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university in the United States, pursuing a degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering.
  • Academic Standing:
    • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
    • Completed at least 30 credit hours at the time of application.
    • Transfer students must have a GPA from their current university.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience in advanced functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, macros) highly preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of US federal environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)).
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Detail-oriented and possess strong organization skills.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills.
    • Motivated team member who can work well both independently and collaboratively.
  • Work Requirements:
    • Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours / week).
    • Must complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
