Safety Intern | Turner Construction Company

The Tone:
This is an internship at Turner Construction Company, located in Cincinnati, OH. Turner Construction is a prominent general contractor that specializes in various construction projects across the region. This Safety Intern role is crucial for supporting the company’s commitment to creating and maintaining a safe work environment across its construction projects and office locations. The intern will play a key part in helping to implement and monitor safety protocols to prevent injuries and losses.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Safety Program Implementation: Help implement the Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday) and project safety programs on construction sites or in office locations, working under direct supervision.
• Violation Identification & Reporting: Contribute to identifying and reporting safety violations or unsafe practices, with a critical emphasis on situations posing imminent danger to life or property.
• Meeting & Training Coordination: Support the coordination of safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings, and assist with coordinating training for these sessions and orientations.
• Record Management & Inspections: Assist in maintaining comprehensive safety records such as pre-task plans, Job Hazard Analyses, training logs, OSHA 300 logs, and incident investigations, while also helping conduct jobsite inspections and develop summaries.
• New Employee Orientation: Facilitate the effective worker orientation program for new employees, including administration and recording participation details.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled and actively pursuing an accredited college or university degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a closely related field of study. Candidates must have completed a minimum of one year of their education or possess an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience: Demonstrate a basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques, coupled with a desire to work in construction management and learn about the construction industry.
• Skills: Possess professional and clear verbal and written communication skills, high attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. Proficiency in computer and data entry, including Microsoft Office suite applications and collaboration tools, is required.
• Bonus: Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement. Candidates should be proactive, curious, eager to learn, and capable of working independently with direction as well as in a team environment. Access to reliable transportation is required for limited travel.
