The Tone:
This is an Environmental Consulting Intern role at Wood, ideally located in Austin or Houston, TX, with other Texas locations considered. This role is instrumental in supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary renewable energy projects through their feasibility, pre-construction, and construction phases, focusing on environmental and permitting aspects.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: Austin or Houston, TX (with other Texas locations considered)
• Team: Part of a project development team, supporting scopes within the Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage industries and interacting with international team members.
• Mission: To support the delivery of multidisciplinary renewable energy projects through their feasibility, pre-construction, and/or construction phases, with a primary focus on environmental and permitting aspects.
• Tech Stack: GIS software, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel), SharePoint, PowerPoint, PowerApps, PowerBI

What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Studies: Conduct environmental field studies, including wetland delineations and protected species habitat assessments, across Texas and surrounding areas.
• Project Support: Aid in the delivery of renewable energy project development scopes, ensuring adherence to pre-defined budgets, deadlines, and quality standards.
• Spatial Analysis: Employ GIS software to analyze spatial data, create necessary maps, and identify potential constraints for renewable energy development.
• Documentation: Draft and contribute to technical documents, reports, and critical permit applications.
• Regulatory Compliance: Assist with environmental permitting processes by coordinating with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professional with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, or a Natural Resources related discipline, demonstrating interest in the renewable energy sector.
• Experience: Willingness to conduct regular fieldwork in varied terrain and weather conditions, with prior experience in both field and office environments. A Master’s degree is considered an asset.
• Skills: Proficiency in GIS software and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel), a solid understanding of the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and NEPA, coupled with excellent time management, communication, and critical thinking abilities.
• Bonus: Knowledge of SharePoint, PowerPoint, PowerApps, and PowerBI is an advantage.
