What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Progression: Support defense litigation matters comprehensively, guiding them from initial case review through their ultimate resolution, thereby helping to efficiently move files forward in an organized and timely manner.
• Legal Documentation & Advocacy: Prepare various legal documents including motions, memoranda, and other written submissions with meticulous attention to accuracy, persuasiveness, and adherence to applicable procedural rules. This also involves assisting with broader written advocacy by thoroughly researching complex legal issues and drafting detailed briefs for subsequent court filings.
• Discovery Management: Oversee and execute essential discovery activities, which includes drafting comprehensive responses to discovery requests, preparing new requests as needed, and diligently reviewing all produced materials to ensure compliance and strategic advantage.
• Strategic Collaboration & Participation: Work in close collaboration with senior attorneys on developing civil litigation strategy, refining case development plans, and handling day-to-day file management. This extends to organizing all case documents, tracking critical deadlines, and managing litigation materials to ensure strict compliance with court schedules and client requirements, while also participating in hearings, client communications, and other litigation support tasks as permitted by experience and licensing.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a Juris Doctor degree coupled with 0-5 years of relevant legal experience, specifically within litigation or closely related practice areas. This includes having a foundational knowledge of civil litigation procedure and an understanding of defense-oriented case handling principles.
• Experience: Hold an active attorney license in good standing, or demonstrate eligibility to work in a law clerk capacity while actively pursuing admission to the bar, as applicable to the jurisdiction. Additionally, experience with or a strong understanding of discovery processes, including adeptness in document review and drafting written responses, is required.
• Skills: Exhibit the ability to competently draft motions, legal briefs, and other court-related documents, demonstrating strong written communication skills that are clear and persuasive. This role also demands strong legal research capabilities, incisive analytical thinking, and excellent organizational abilities to manage complex legal information and timelines effectively.
• Bonus: A willingness to proactively learn, accept mentorship from experienced legal professionals, and consistently develop new skills and knowledge within a general civil defense litigation practice is highly valued.
