Senior Data and Business Intelligence Manager – Datalytics | Milliman

The Tone:
This is a senior-level leadership role at Milliman, a remote U.S. position within their Chicago-Milwaukee Property and Casualty practice. Milliman Datalytics-Defense provides an e-billing solution designed by actuaries for insurance companies’ analytical needs, offering a platform for defense attorney invoice submission, review, and payment, alongside auditing features and predictive analytics. This role is essential for overseeing the enterprise data warehouse, leading the development of Power BI dashboards, and translating complex analytical results from predictive models and AI into clear, actionable business insights for clients.

• Mission: Lead the improvement of the enterprise data warehouse, drive Power BI dashboard and reporting solution development, and deliver business insights from predictive modeling and AI.
• Tech Stack: Power BI, Azure SQL Database Fabric Data Warehouse, Azure Entra ID, Azure DevOps (repos, pipelines, CI/CD), Microsoft Teams, T-SQL, Data Integration (ETL/ELT).

What You’ll Actually Do
• Leadership: Lead the ongoing improvement of the enterprise data warehouse environment and provide technical direction, vetting emerging technologies, and enforcing best practices.
• Development: Oversee and directly participate in the design, development, and maintenance of Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations.
• Communication: Partner with data science and analytics teams to understand predictive model and AI outputs, then communicate results to clients and stakeholders.
• Strategy: Work directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements and lead their translation into reporting, dashboard, and data solutions.
• Governance: Ensure data accuracy, quality, consistency, and governance across reporting and analytics platforms.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business, Statistics, or a related field; senior-level leadership in data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics, or enterprise reporting.
• Experience: 6+ years of experience in data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics, or enterprise reporting; strong experience managing and working in an Azure Fabric enterprise data warehouse environment; advanced technical and managerial experience in Power BI (including dashboard development, reporting, data modeling, and visualization best practices) and Azure SQL Database Fabric Data Warehouse.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of T-SQL, data integration and ETL/ELT processes, data warehouse schema design (e.g., fact and dimension tables), database performance tuning, strong client relationship, presentation, and communication skills.
• Bonus: Practical experience using Azure Entra ID, Azure DevOps (including repos, pipelines, CI/CD), and Microsoft Teams; experience working with teams that develop predictive analytics, machine learning, and AI solutions; familiarity with data governance and reporting standards.
