HMIS Internship Program Overview:
The HMIS Internship Program offers Undergraduate students and recent graduates an exciting opportunity to work with industry professionals, develop valuable skills, and explore diverse careers in fields such as environmental management, engineering, technology, and business. Interns will contribute to the successful execution of sitewide operations, infrastructure management, and project support, gaining insights from experts into one of the nation’s most critical environmental missions.

Specific Role: Engineering Undergrad Co-Op Intern
HMIS is actively seeking an Engineering Undergrad Intern to provide support to its Engineering and Projects organization. This Co-Op intern will perform a variety of entry-level duties that are crucial to supporting various elements within the HMIS Engineering department.

Work Activities Are Expected To Include:

  • Development of technical information through drawing and document research.
  • Updating databases and engineering configuration management information.
  • Conducting field walkdowns.
  • Interfacing with personnel both inside and outside of the Engineering department.
  • Assisting engineers with various general support requests.
  • Specific project scope will be identified during interviews.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be pursuing a B.S. degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Must demonstrate an interest in learning about engineering technology, processes, and real-world applications of coursework.
  • Must have one college term completed at an accredited college or university.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student.
  • Must live within a commutable distance from the Richland work location.
  • Must have and maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge.

Desired Qualifications:

  • AutoCAD experience (desired but not required for consideration).
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership or initiative in academic or extracurricular activities.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks/projects.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced, professional environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

Hourly Rate Structure:

  • Freshman: $18.26 per hour
  • Sophomore: $18.95 per hour
  • Junior: $25.77 per hour
  • Senior: $30.41 per hour

Offer Determination: In accordance with the HMIS wage determination process, offers will consider the candidate’s degree program, the scope of work for the position, their grade level in school (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior), and the external labor market. A candidate’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions. The listed starting rates and ranges represent the full wage scale that may be offered for this position.

Additional Benefits: In accordance with the Service Contract Act, this position is eligible for a health & welfare wage adder of up to $4.93 per hour.
