This includes designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software that controls critical operations across a vast array of end-use applications, from automotive engines to power generation systems and industrial machinery. Software Tools Development:
Become an architect of efficiency! This position focuses on the full lifecycle of software tools that interact with Cummins’ products. To be successful in this role, you will develop and apply critical engineering skills:
- Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems: Contribute to the interdisciplinary design and implementation of systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components, driving smart product solutions.
- Machine Integration and Optimization: Participate in integrating Cummins’ products into larger systems (e.g., vehicles, industrial equipment) and work on optimizing their performance, efficiency, and compatibility.
- Product Failure Mode Avoidance: Learn and apply proactive engineering methodologies to identify potential failure modes early in the design phase, enhancing product reliability, safety, and quality.
- Product Problem Solving: Develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose complex product issues, identify root causes, and propose innovative and effective solutions.

2026 Monthly Salary Range by Degree Level:
- Bachelor’s: $3,900 – $5,000
- Master’s: $6,000
- PhD: $7,300
Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate’s qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
Internship Program Criteria:
- Must be a full-time enrolled student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited U.S. college/university.
- Minimum 2.5 or above GPA preferred.
- Must be able to complete a minimum of 4-months to 6-months or a maximum of a 12-months commitment.
- Must be able to complete 40 hours per week.
- Willingness to learn from others on the job.
- Must be currently residing within the continental U.S.
