In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Product Software Engineering:
  Dive into the exciting world of embedded systems! You will be actively involved in the creation and meticulous management of software that forms the brain of many Cummins’ products. This includes designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software that controls critical operations across a vast array of end-use applications, from automotive engines to power generation systems and industrial machinery. Your work will directly influence product functionality, reliability, and performance.
• Software Tools Development:
  Become an architect of efficiency! This position focuses on the full lifecycle of software tools that interact with Cummins’ products. You will engage in the identification and deep understanding of stakeholder requirements, translating them into precise specifications. Your responsibilities will span the design, implementation, rigorous testing, and/or release of robust software tools crucial for diagnostics, calibration, data analysis, and overall product interaction in a variety of customer environments.
• Hardware Design & Integration:
  Build the physical backbone of our innovations! In this hands-on role, you will be instrumental in the creation, integration, and validation of essential electrical and electronic hardware for Cummins products. This typically involves the development and rigorous validation of electronic sensors, actuators, sophisticated control units, intricate harnesses, robust wiring practices, and comprehensive control systems. You will work with associated analog and digital signals to ensure the flawless and consistent operation of Cummins’ products in demanding customer applications.
• Product Performance & Controls Integration:
  Optimize and tailor our systems for peak performance! This product-focused position involves the strategic customization of electronic and electrical systems for Cummins products. You will play a crucial role in translating overarching product requirements into precise hardware and software technical specifications. Your work ensures seamless control over the operation of Cummins’ products, optimizing their performance, efficiency, and reliability across diverse customer applications.

Key Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities:

To be successful in this role, you will develop and apply critical engineering skills:

• Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems: Contribute to the interdisciplinary design and implementation of systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components, driving smart product solutions.
• Machine Integration and Optimization: Participate in integrating Cummins’ products into larger systems (e.g., vehicles, industrial equipment) and work on optimizing their performance, efficiency, and compatibility.
• Product Failure Mode Avoidance: Learn and apply proactive engineering methodologies to identify potential failure modes early in the design phase, enhancing product reliability, safety, and quality.
• Product Problem Solving: Develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose complex product issues, identify root causes, and propose innovative and effective solutions.
• Product Verification and Validation Management: Assist in planning, executing, and analyzing tests to ensure products meet all specified requirements and perform reliably under various conditions.

Education:

2026 Monthly Salary Range by Degree Level:

• Bachelor’s: $3,900 – $5,000
• Master’s: $6,000
• PhD: $7,300

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate’s qualifications and experience, where appropriate.

Internship Program Criteria:

• Must be a full-time enrolled student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited U.S. college/university.
• Minimum 2.5 or above GPA preferred.
• Must be able to complete a minimum of 4-months to 6-months or a maximum of a 12-months commitment.
• Must be able to complete 40 hours per week.
• Willingness to learn from others on the job.
• Must be currently residing within the continental U.S.
