Engineering Internship Job Description:

Cargill offers Engineering Internships at various production facilities across the United States. Interns gain real-world experience in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, learning from experienced professionals. The internship is designed to prepare students for their future careers, not just as a temporary role.

Internship Areas of Focus:

Interns will gain experience in either Operations Leadership and/or Maintenance & Reliability Engineering. Potential future career paths based on this internship experience include:

Production Management Engineers: These engineers lead people, processes, and input/output in a plant environment. Responsibilities include direct supervision of operators, participation in daily production meetings, handling government regulations and compliance, team development, hiring, scheduling, and process optimization.
Environmental Engineers: These engineers work with various teams and assets related to plant operations, such as refrigeration, steam, and wastewater treatment. They supervise operators and technicians, manage daily work and planning activities, and handle environmental compliance and regulatory permitting.
Process/Project Engineers: These engineers handle business case development, vendor selection, budget management, and project management for major projects. Their work involves process optimization, safety, quality, infrastructure, energy use, and implementation of technical initiatives.
Maintenance & Reliability Engineers: These engineers engage teams, improve processes, and utilize assets to minimize downtime and repair costs. They supervise specialized teams, lead planning activities, and utilize tools such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and 5S.

Internship Program Details:

Duration: Typically 12 weeks (Summer 2025, May/June – August).
Compensation: hourly pay ($25.00 – $34.70 per hour), with eligibility for overtime.

Physical Demands: The job involves physical activity requiring moderate exertion, including lifting (occasionally over 50 pounds, frequently 10-25 pounds), bending, stooping, and exposure to various environmental conditions (heat, cold, grain dust, etc.).
Programming: Interns participate in events focused on leadership development, networking, and cross-functional collaboration. High-performing interns may be offered a second internship or full-time employment.
Benefits: Paid time off, mental health and wellbeing programs, digital learning library, and potential housing/relocation assistance.

Required Qualifications:
