Detailed Job Description:

This position is for an entry-level engineering role, likely an internship or junior engineer position, at Pape-Dawson Engineers. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) and contribute to various infrastructure projects. These projects span several disciplines including Transportation, Water Resources, Environmental, Survey, Residential, and Commercial land development.

Responsibilities: The intern/junior engineer will be involved in a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to:

Assisting with Project Management: Supporting the Project Manager in creating project plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Design Development: Developing and comparing feasible design alternatives, considering factors like typical sections, horizontal and vertical alignments, right-of-way requirements, and cost. This includes identifying and analyzing key design features to meet project needs.
CAD and Software Usage: Utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software, specifically AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other engineering software (InfoWorks® is mentioned as preferred but not required) to create engineering and design documents.
Technical Report Writing: Preparing written technical reports and engineering studies, adhering to company formatting guidelines.
Fieldwork: Participating in site visits, assisting with field tests/construction observation, and creating “as-built” drawings.
Support Tasks: The description notes that interns frequently handle tasks like redlining drawings, assisting with submittals, preparing exhibits, and occasionally engaging in design work based on experience.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, or Agricultural Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
• Prior experience in civil design through internships is preferred but not required.
• Understanding of fundamental engineering principles, techniques, and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and public agencies.
• Adaptability and flexibility to handle shifting priorities and deadlines.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Word, and MS Excel.
• Familiarity with InfoWorks® is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Availability to work Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with occasional overtime.
• Reliability and dependability.
