Detailed Job Description: Engineering Intern
AeroVironment seeks Engineering Interns to contribute to various aspects of their engineering and manufacturing processes. The internship offers hands-on experience working on real products and projects, contributing directly to the company’s development path. Interns will have responsibilities impacting actual products, working within a specific engineering area aligned with their academic background and skills.
Potential projects include:
• Designing new unmanned aircraft for planetary surveillance.
• Testing and verifying design modifications to flight hardware/software systems.
• Resolving flight behavior issues on miniature unmanned aerial vehicles.
Responsibilities:
• Participate in multiple phases of the Engineering/Manufacturing Design & Development process.
• Support engineering and design activities using tools such as Windtunnels, 3-D Printers, Solidworks, Altium, Ansys, Visual Studio, and Matlab.
• Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled Junior, Senior, or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Aero/Mechanical/Electrical or Computer Science/Engineering.
• Relevant coursework completed.
• UAV or Robotics experience.
• Hands-on experience with relevant tools.
• Experience with software tools in the chosen area of expertise.
Desired Qualifications & Competencies:
• Flight test or R/C experience.
• Strong understanding of general engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics, and material properties.
• Familiarity with structured development techniques.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Teamwork-oriented and collaborative approach.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
• Frequent sitting and standing.
• Regular use of hands and fingers to operate computer and telephone keyboards.
ITAR Requirement:
This position requires access to information subject to ITAR and/or EAR compliance. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under these regulations or be approved for an export license. Some positions may require U.S. citizenship due to contract requirements.
