Job Description

Position Title: Engineering Intern
Location: Columbus team
Term: Summer 2026 (typically 8-12 weeks)
Application Deadline: January 6, 2025

Mission: To support impactful roadway and active transportation projects that align with Toole Design’s mission and values of creating safer, more connected communities through sustainable multimodal transportation design.

Key Responsibilities (What You’ll Do):
• Be fully embedded in project teams alongside planners, engineers, and landscape architects.
• Contribute to active projects from day one.
• Prepare graphics for new intersection designs.
• Analyze pedestrian survey data.
• Develop materials for public meetings.
• Gain hands-on experience in multimodal transportation across various contexts, including roadway reconstructions, streetscapes, and signature trail projects.
• Learn from and collaborate with a community of interns across the country on shared projects, enhancing technical skills.

Program Details:
Paid Internship: Targeting a salary range of $20 to $24 per hour.
Work Schedule: Generally 40 hours per week.
Work Environment: Four days in the office, with the option to work from home on Fridays. All offices are bikeable, walkable, and transit-friendly.
Mentorship: Work alongside thought leaders and industry experts who are committed to mentoring and helping interns grow their expertise.
Housing Assistance: The Chris Kelleher Memorial Fund provides housing assistance to hired interns, with application information provided in the spring.

Qualifications (What You Bring):
Education: Open to undergraduate students (3rd year or higher), graduate students, and recent graduates.
Field of Study: Civil engineering or a related field.
Skills:
• Ability to quickly pick up new concepts, skills, and programs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• MicroStation or AutoCAD experience or a willingness to learn these programs.
Passion: A strong passion for active transportation.
