Job Description:
Job Title: Engineering Intern
Program: Aerovel (Airbus Helicopters Flexrotor program)
Location: Bingen, WA (On-site, 100% daily)
Role Summary:
The Engineering Intern will assist engineers in activities directly or peripherally linked with repairs or development projects for helicopter parts or equipment. Assigned projects are typically suited for completion within a period of 6 to 12 weeks.
Primary Responsibilities (General):
Responsibilities will vary based on the available project but consistently involve:
• Receiving and digesting introductions to basic helicopter operation and design, engineering department roles and activities, and assigned project goals.
• Developing a project schedule, including phases, tasks list, and milestones.
• Creating a project execution report, with content adjusted based on the target audience.
• Performing periodic reviews with the direct supervisor.
• Briefing project execution and lessons learned to the Department Manager upon project completion.
Primary Responsibilities (Mechanical Background Project Examples):
• Researching technical information for feasibility or obsolescence evaluation.
• Performing maintenance, cataloging, or classification of existing technical data.
• Creating CAD models from legacy data or developing new CAD data.
• Assisting in prototyping activities.
• Assisting in the functional definition or analysis of an intended design.
• Assisting in the accomplishment of engineering airframe designs/analysis (and associated reports).
• Assisting in repairs or modifications development programs requiring any type of mechanical or airframe analysis, detail design, or testing (and associated reports).
• Assisting in project execution performance analysis or improvement.
• Assisting in data manipulation and analysis (and associated reports).
Primary Responsibilities (Systems / Electrical Background Project Examples):
• Involves similar activities to mechanical-based projects, but specifically applied to electrical or systems topics.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college/university.
• Demonstrated resourcefulness, strong organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate activities across company functions.
• Must be a US Person under ITAR definition (U.S. Citizen, green card holder, or person covered under an existing ITAR license).
• Basic knowledge of 2D or 3D mechanical or structural, OR electrical design requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form in English.
• Proficiency with Mathematic or Data processing software.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in 2D or 3D design of detail parts, electrical diagrams, functional diagrams, assemblies, and/or installations.
• Basic coding for data analysis or logical processing functions.
Physical Requirements (On-site 100% – Daily):
• Vision: Able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens; able to read documents, reports, and engineering drawings daily.
• Hearing: Able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone; able to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms daily.
• Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications daily.
• Equipment Operation: Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment daily.
• Carrying: Able to carry documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs daily.
• Lifting: Able to lift documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs daily.
• Pushing / Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture occasionally.
• Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on a computer daily.
• Squatting / Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving occasionally.
• Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices daily.
• Travel: Able to travel independently and at short notice rarely.
• Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces daily.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits; appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
Salary Range & Benefits:
• Hourly Range:
• $24.25 – $30.25/hour for undergraduate students (based on year in school).
• $36.25/hour for graduate students.
• Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on geographic differential. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
