Job Description (Detailed):
This is a Student – Internship role, specifically a Co-Op Program, categorized as Engineering within the Organization Cummins Inc. It is an On-site with Flexibility role with No Relocation Package.
The primary focus of this role is to make an impact by assisting in the investigation and resolution of product and system problems, with guidance from more experienced team members. The role is heavily centered on the execution and improvement of established processes, particularly those documented in detailed local and global work instructions (EPs) that are essential for Engineering Standard Work (ESW) and/or Design Validation Plans (DVP&R).
Key activities and responsibilities include:
• Investigating product and system problems, understanding causal mechanisms, recommending appropriate actions, and documenting results.
• Executing and improving established processes through standard and specialized computational tools and methods.
• Supporting Design and Validation processes to enable high-confidence decision making.
• Assisting more experienced team members in gathering input from Design, Thermal Sciences, Materials, and Product Validation.
• Delivering computer models and results for key structural performance parameters such as motion, load, natural frequencies, stress, design margin, life, and sound power to Design and Product Validation teams.
• Utilizing formal engineering training in areas like Statics, Dynamics, Machine Design, Mechanics of Materials, Failure Analysis, and Engineering Materials.
• Applying tool-specific training in software such as ANSYS, FE-Safe, GT, and AVL to support design decisions based on numerical predictions of structural performance for components and systems.
• Engaging in problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems, or services.
• Supervised execution of work processes, while developing technology or product knowledge, and contributing to the improvement of systems and processes.
• Contributing effectively towards team goals and developing proficiency in critical competency areas.
• No direct management of people, but may involve limited coordination of work among engineers or technicians.

• Degree Programs Considered: Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD.

Qualifications and Salary:
• 2025 Monthly Salary Range by Degree Level:
• Bachelor’s: $3,900 – $5,000
• Master’s: $6,000
• PhD: $7,300
• The final salary offer will consider relevant factors including a candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Co-Op Program Criteria:
• Must be a full-time enrolled student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited U.S. college/university.
• Minimum 2.5 or above GPA preferred.
• Must be able to complete a minimum of 10-weeks or a maximum of a 12-weeks commitment.
• Must be able to complete 40 hours per week.
• Willingness to learn from others on the job.
• Must be currently residing within the continental U.S.
