Job Description: Engineering Co-op (May 2025)
This is a 7-8-month co-op opportunity (May-December 2025) located at various Cargill production facilities across the United States. Students must be open to relocation. The program aims to provide hands-on experience in both technical and management aspects of engineering, laying the groundwork for future career aspirations.
What you’ll do: Co-ops will gain experience in Operations Leadership and/or Maintenance & Reliability Engineering roles within Cargill’s diverse businesses, including: Agricultural Supply Chain North America (CASCNA), Cocoa and Chocolate North America (CCNA), Edible Oils North America (EONA), Cargill Bio Industrial (CBI), Protein and Salt (CPS), and Starches and Sweeteners and Texturizing Solutions (CSST).
Specific responsibilities may include:
• Production Management Engineers: Leading people, processes, and inputs/outputs in a plant environment; directly supervising operators; participating in production meetings; handling government regulations and compliance; developing production teams; managing hiring, scheduling, and employee relations; process optimization; equipment and process reliability; and capital projects.
• Environmental Engineers: Working with refrigeration, steam, water, and air systems; operating wastewater treatment plants; managing environmental compliance and permitting; supervising operators and technicians; planning maintenance and capital projects; process improvement.
• Process/Project Engineers: Developing business cases; selecting vendors; managing budgets; managing projects related to process optimization, safety, quality, infrastructure, and energy use; participating in innovation processes and reliability-centered design; implementing technical initiatives.
• Maintenance & Reliability Engineers: Engaging teams; improving processes; managing facility production to minimize downtime and repair costs; supervising specialized teams; planning maintenance and capital projects; utilizing tools like RCM, FMEA, RCA, 5S, and 5-Why.
The plant environment is described as: team-oriented, fast-paced, and hands-on, focusing on employee engagement, inclusion, and innovation. Co-ops will have opportunities to work on projects involving designing, upgrading systems, and reviewing/updating plant drawings.
Physical Demands: The job involves physical activity requiring moderate exertion, including bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects over 50 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds. Exposure to heat, cold, grain dust, etc., may also occur.
Compensation and Benefits: The hourly rate is $25.00-$34.70, depending on graduation date and full-time employment eligibility. Additional benefits, including medical, may be available depending on the position and hours worked.
