The Tone:
This is an early career Engineer role at Whatnot, operating as a remote co-located team that requires living within commuting distance of specific hub cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle. Whatnot is the leading livestream shopping platform across North America and Europe, empowering individuals to buy, sell, and discover diverse items from trading cards to fashion. This role is crucial for building live commerce at an unprecedented scale, shaping a new industry without a pre-existing blueprint, and enabling sellers to transform their passions into viable businesses.

The TL;DR

• Type: Full-time
• Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)
• Pay: $140000–$150000 yearly
• Mission: Own whole engineering projects from start to finish, delivering high-quality products rapidly with sound product decisions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Feature Development: Build new functionalities for users engaging in live-streams.
• Growth Implementation: Implement tactics and strategies to expand buyer and seller activity.
• Scalable Systems: Develop large-scale systems to ensure a high-trust marketplace environment.
• Code Production: Write development code for products and systems.
• Service Operation: Design, implement, and operate critical and scalable services.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering in December 2025 or by Summer 2026.
• Experience: Some industry software engineering experience, demonstrating an ability to ship products quickly for large user bases and build scalable systems, plus willingness to relocate to Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle.
• Skills: Sound product decision-making, rapid high-quality product delivery, good judgment and trade-off evaluation, strong product instincts, quick adoption of new technologies.
