Job Description: Engineer

Cargill offers entry-level Engineer positions across various U.S. locations, requiring relocation. The role is designed to provide exposure to both the technical and management aspects of engineering, fostering long-term career growth.

Initial Roles & Responsibilities:

New engineers begin in either an Operations Leadership or Maintenance & Reliability Engineering role. Responsibilities vary depending on the specific placement within Cargill’s diverse businesses (Agricultural Supply Chain North America, Cocoa and Chocolate, Deicing Technology, Global Edible Oil Solutions North America, Industrial Specialties, Protein, Salt, Starches and Sweeteners, and Texturizing Solutions). Regardless of the initial placement, all roles involve:

• Leading production or maintenance employees, project teams, or contractors.
• Executing critical initiatives and projects in a fast-paced production environment.
• Collaborating with colleagues and clients from diverse backgrounds.

Potential Career Paths:

The engineer role serves as a foundation for various career advancements, including:

Production Management Engineers: Lead people, processes, and production in a plant setting. Responsibilities include daily supervision of operators, production management meetings, compliance with government regulations (environmental, health, safety, maintenance, housekeeping), team development, hiring, scheduling, and employee relations. They also participate in process optimization, equipment reliability, and may lead capital projects.
Environmental Engineers: Lead people, processes, and assets related to plant utilities (refrigeration, steam, water, compressed air). Manage a large-scale wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and environmental compliance programs. Responsibilities include daily supervision of operators, planning (maintenance, capital projects, process improvements), and regulatory permitting.
Process/Project Engineers: Responsible for business case development, vendor selection, budget management, and project management for major projects focused on process optimization, safety, quality, infrastructure, and energy use. Involved in innovation processes, idea generation, reliability-centered design, and implementation of technical initiatives from global groups.
Maintenance and Reliability Engineers: Lead people, processes, and assets to optimize facility uptime and repair costs. Daily supervision of skilled tradespeople for planned and unplanned work. Responsible for planning (maintenance, capital projects, process improvements) using tools like RCM, FMEA, RCA, 5S, and 5-Why.

Work Environment:

The roles are based in industrial/processing environments, requiring moderate physical exertion and potential exposure to various conditions (heat, cold, grain dust, etc.).

Required Qualifications:

• U.S. work authorization (not based on a student visa or third-party employer sponsorship).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in agricultural, biological systems, chemical, electrical, mechanical, mining, or other engineering discipline (degree completion between December 2024 and Summer 2025).
• Willingness and ability to relocate.

• Plant, production, co-op, or intern experience.
