Job Description:

This internship at Brookings provides undergraduate and graduate students with a pre-professional learning experience. The internship program aims to provide meaningful, practical work experience related to the intern’s field of study or career interest. Interns will engage in career exploration and development and learn new skills. Interns can attend meetings, think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events. They also have the opportunity to network with other interns throughout the institution.

Specific Responsibilities for the Engagement Intern:

The Engagement Intern will support the institution’s efforts to engage local leaders through various channels, including targeted post-publication outreach and peer-learning networks. The purpose is to inform and encourage the adoption of research, policy ideas, and actionable solutions. The intern will:

• Support the development and execution of both in-person and virtual convenings with local leaders and other external stakeholders.
• Provide administrative support on special projects and outreach strategies.

Requirements:

• Applicants should be undergraduate students in their junior or senior year or graduate students pursuing a master’s degree with a major in communications, public policy, urban policy, or related fields.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Ability to listen for and clearly document themes and key takeaways.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
• Capacity to perform well in team and individual settings.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Must be located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship, but the internship is open to hybrid and/or remote applicants (with restrictions on work location within certain states).
• Must be willing to commit to a minimum of 20-30 hours per week during regular business hours, with some flexibility around an academic course schedule.
• Hourly rate of $18.00.
