Energy Storage Summer Student Employee
Location: Charlotte, NC, Palo Alto, CA
Job Summary
Are you interested in how energy storage can enable a more abundant, low-carbon energy future? EPRI is seeking highly motivated summer interns for its long-duration energy storage research group. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on non-battery energy storage types, including chemical, mechanical, and thermal systems. Ideal candidates will possess strong engineering skills and a desire to work collaboratively within a dynamic research environment.
Potential Tasks and Responsibilities
- Participate in fieldwork to conduct independent assessments of energy storage pilot plants.
- Develop and apply models to simulate the performance of various energy storage technologies.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on emerging and developing energy storage technologies.
- Engage in energy market research to understand trends and economic factors influencing energy storage.
- Support detailed cost and benefits analyses for different energy storage solutions.
Education Requirements
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant engineering field, such as Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Preferred coursework includes:
- Thermodynamics
- Fluid Mechanics
- Heat Transfer
- Power Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Strong Computer and Analytical Skills: Ability to effectively use software and analytical tools for research and modeling.
- Energy Storage Experience: Demonstrated experience with projects related to energy storage technologies.
- Motivated and Proactive: An initiative-taker who is eager to learn and contribute.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Proficient in both written and verbal communication.
- Adaptable: Willingness to contribute to a diverse range of projects within the group.
Hourly Rate Range for Student Positions
The hourly rates provided are estimates and may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, abilities, internal equity, market data, and geographic location.
- Undergraduate: $16 – $29 per hour
- Masters: $27 – $33 per hour
- Ph.D: $31 – $36 per hour
Benefits and Relocation
As an EPRI Student employee, you will not participate in EPRI’s comprehensive benefit programs (e.g., health insurance, retirement, vacation, sick leave beyond legally required, holiday pay). However, you will be eligible for Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.
Relocation assistance is not provided for student positions that require relocation to an EPRI office. Students will be responsible for all associated relocation costs and expenses.
