What To Expect

Consider the following before submitting an application:

  • This position is expected to start in May 2026 and continue through the entire Summer term (i.e., through August 2026) or into Fall 2026 if available.
  • We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week), and on-site for most internships.

International Students:

If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

What You’ll Do

Qualified applicants may be reviewed by one or more of the following teams:

Megapack Sales

  • Focuses on the development and sales of Tesla Energy products (primarily battery energy storage BESS) for front-of-the-meter (utility, independent power producers, developer customers) and behind-the-meter (commercial and industrial) customers.
  • Projects range from renewable microgrids to large-scale storage deployments for capacity or grid services.
  • Seeking candidates who have the ability to clearly communicate concepts and support hypotheses with data.
  • Ability to work across multiple teams to gain input and consensus.

Sales Engineering

The Tesla Energy team is committed and fast-moving. We are a group of engineers that sit at the center of business development, Tesla technology, and the deployment of stationary storage projects on the grid. As a member of our team, you will:

  • Work with prospective customers to identify the best commercial and technical fit of Tesla’s battery systems by creating and defining the business case.
  • Build internal analytical and software tools to streamline the sales engineering process to support large volumes of energy projects.
  • Work closely with Sales Engineer(s) to complete the financial and preliminary site design for customers.
  • Work with the sales team to evaluate new market segments and perform analysis of storage potential.
  • Understand regional energy markets and utilities.
  • Define and disseminate functional requirements with internal business and engineering colleagues.
  • Participate in ongoing proceedings related to tariffs and market mechanisms to inform/update modeling processes.

What You’ll Bring

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software or analytical tools to solve problems.
  • Ability to develop software in Python.
  • Ability to document software requirements and specifications.
  • Proficiency in software engineering tools (Git, Atlassian Suite).
  • Knowledge of battery systems, power conversion, and grid systems.
  • Ability to keep track of quickly changing market conditions regarding energy storage funding, product development, and competitive landscape.

Expected Compensation

$20.00 – $50.00/hour + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
