Job Overview

This internship is an onsite position based at Komatsu’s Warrendale, PA office. As an Embedded Controls Software Intern, you will become an integral part of a team dedicated to developing core Embedded Control, Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Data Management software. The primary application for this software will be underground mining machinery.

Key Job Responsibilities

As an Embedded Control Software Intern, your role will involve specializing in and contributing to the development of core embedded software for products that are deployed and operated globally. You will gain valuable exposure to the process of developing software for various underground machines, specifically mentioned are continuous miners and longwall systems.

Key Skills to Enhance

During your internship, you will have the opportunity to significantly enhance your skills in several key areas:

Real-time Embedded Control: You will gain practical experience with both open-loop and closed-loop machine control systems. This involves working with hydraulic and electrical actuators, and utilizing various position sensors for precise control.
Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS): You will become familiar with and work within different real-time operating system environments, including VxWorks, Windows Embedded, and Linux.
Development and Test Environments: The internship provides exposure to a variety of testing methodologies and environments, such as bench testing, 3D simulation, and hands-on factory floor testing on actual machinery.

Qualifications/Requirements

To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet the following educational and skill requirements:

Educational Pursuit: Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering.
• Alternatively, currently pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Control Systems Development, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
Core Strengths: Demonstrated strengths in the areas of embedded systems, networked systems, and software development.
Programming Proficiency: Strong programming skills are required, specifically in C and Java.
