Internship, Reliability Electronics Design Engineer, Energy Engineering (Fall 2026) | Tesla

The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Tesla, located in Palo Alto, CA. Tesla designs and develops cutting-edge energy products, including LV/HV electronics, battery electronics systems, and power electronics circuits for industrial and residential applications. This role is crucial for ensuring exceptional reliability throughout the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to field operation, by proactively designing in durability and validating performance.

• Mission: To follow the reliability lifecycle of energy products, focusing on LV/HV electronics, battery electronics systems, and power electronics circuit design validation, to ensure exceptional reliability at every stage.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Create customized product designs to understand electrical and thermal limits for critical failure modes.
• Architecture: Design advanced electrical architecture, electronics circuits, processor selection, and integration to enhance the automation of electrical reliability tests.
• Analysis: Perform root cause analysis for advanced power electronics circuits and collaborate in the design and manufacturing of existing and future products.
• FMEA: Facilitate design FMEA sessions for reliability corner cases and continuously derive electrical risk reduction strategies to enhance product design reliability and durability.
• Validation: Develop and execute validation plans to verify all features and interfaces across various corner cases, leading subsystem and component reliability/durability testing.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a degree in electrical engineering or a related field; actively enrolled in an academic program as a student.
• Experience: Demonstrated depth in Printed Circuit Board design, experience in high-performance processors and microcontrollers, and hands-on testing with power electronics systems and HV circuit designs.
• Skills: Good understanding of digital and analogue circuits, hands-on experience in switching mode power circuits, demonstrated ability to deconstruct complex test scenarios with strong logic and analytics, and basic programming and scripting ability.
• Bonus: Proven ability to develop reliability tests, including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing, is highly preferred.
