Job Description: Electric Traction Engineering Intern
This internship provides an entry point for aspiring engineers interested in railway engineering, specifically electric traction. The intern will gain practical experience in various aspects of electric traction engineering while contributing to Amtrak’s safety and quality assurance team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Gain knowledge of railroad electrical infrastructure and traction power assets.
• Provide technical, logistical, and administrative support for assigned projects.
• Review and commission new installations, ensuring adherence to engineering standards.
• Conduct field audits focused on improving system reliability and safety protocols.
• Develop audit reports and introduce innovative ideas for efficient information capture and analysis.
• Receive instruction on engineering safety standards, work procedures, and operating practices.
Qualifications:
• Actively pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Safety at an accredited educational institution.
• Sophomore status or at least one year of academic undergraduate studies completed.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in transportation, engineering, manufacturing, industrial, safety, or technical environments.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Compensation and Benefits:
• hourly range: $17.50 – $35.00 per hour, based on factors like school year and program of study.
• Paid Amtrak rail pass privileges.
• One PTO day per academic year.
Program Dates:
• Summer 2025: May 19th – August 8th, 2025.
