Summary:

JELD-WEN is actively seeking an EHS Intern to join its growing team. This role offers an invaluable opportunity to support the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) department within a dynamic manufacturing facility. The intern will gain hands-on experience in workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and industrial operations by assisting with safety initiatives, environmental responsibilities, and continuous improvement activities. This position is designed to provide practical exposure and allow the intern to participate in routine EHS tasks while completing assigned projects that align with facility goals.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily safety walkthroughs on the production floor to proactively identify hazards, including but not limited to housekeeping issues, improper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage, chemical misuse, or missing machine guards.
  • Assist with comprehensive incident and near-miss investigations, which involve collecting statements, photographic evidence, and relevant documentation, as well as participating in root cause analysis sessions.
  • Support new hire safety orientation programs by preparing and organizing essential training materials and assisting with the delivery of required EHS instruction.
  • Update and diligently maintain critical safety documents such as Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Assist in environmental compliance tasks, including meticulous waste tracking, accurate container labeling, and ensuring adherence to proper storage practices.
  • Actively participate in safety committee meetings, toolbox talks, and various safety communication initiatives to foster a proactive safety culture.

Project Assignments:

Throughout the internship, the EHS Intern will be assigned specific projects meticulously designed to build core EHS competencies and contribute directly to improving facility compliance or overall safety performance.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, Public Health, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and an enthusiastic willingness to learn complex manufacturing safety processes and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively independently, manage multiple priorities efficiently, and maintain excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
