EHS Co-op/Intern (3-6 Months, 2025/2026)

Location: Tilton and Franklin Facilities

Reports To: Senior EHS Manager

Summary

We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Co-op/Intern for a 3-6 month term in 2025 or 2026. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience by supporting the EHS program across our Tilton and Franklin facilities. Under the guidance of the Senior EHS Manager, you will provide critical tactical support for program updates and compliance initiatives, contributing directly to a safer and more environmentally responsible workplace.

The primary goal of this position is to assist with program enhancements related to critical safety protocols such as lockout/tagout and confined space, conduct hazard assessments, and support employee training efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As an EHS Co-op/Intern, your core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Workplace Hazard Abatement: Support the development and implementation of policies, programs, and projects aimed at identifying and reducing workplace hazards.
  • Safety Training & Support: Assist in training employees on essential safety procedures to ensure compliance and support production needs, addressing facility-specific issues as they arise.
  • Program Compliance: Contribute to the update and refinement of various EH&S programs, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Auditing & Reviews: Participate in periodic EHS reviews and audits, including those related to air, water, and hazardous wastes, to verify adherence to or exceed established federal/state regulations.
  • Safety Inspections: Execute routine safety audits and inspections across the facilities to identify potential risks and non-compliance.
  • Facility Safety Evaluations: Conduct evaluations of facility conditions specifically related to safety standards and requirements.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to primary duties, the EHS Co-op/Intern will:

  • Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all applicable safety requirements, company policies, and procedures, consistently maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Active Participation: Participate actively in all required training sessions, medical monitoring programs, and safety and health evaluations.
  • PPE Usage: Consistently wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas within the facility.
  • Physical Demands: Be prepared to perform all physical functions of the position, including standing, stooping, bending, sitting, walking, twisting, kneeling, turning, and lifting materials up to 35 lbs.
  • Attendance: Meet established attendance standards consistently.
  • Incident Reporting: Report any work-related injury or illness immediately to your direct supervisor/manager.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the EHS department and overall facility operations.

Education, Experience, and Required Skills

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Education: Currently enrolled and actively pursuing an accredited university degree in a relevant field such as Health, Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Work Ethic: Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within groups to meet established deadlines and project timelines.
  • Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to identifying and solving problems related to EHS.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail for conducting accurate audits and ensuring program compliance.

Hourly Pay Rate

Competitive hourly pay rates are offered based on your current academic standing:

  • Sophomore: $20.00 per hour
  • Junior: $21.00 per hour
  • Senior: $22.00 per hour
